This project for our repeat client MacTaggart Family & Partners was the complete refurbishment of their headquarters at No.1 Babmaes Street in Piccadilly.  This five-storey building with basement and single stair access is located in a restricted commercial and residential road off Jermyn Street.

Our works consisted of the complete strip-out of the existing building and lift, temporary structural works leading to the removal of the fourth floor and roof, new structural steel frame fourth floor supporting structure with new fourth floor and roof area.  The existing front façade in brick and stone was restored, with new brickwork to the new external walls.  A new staircase to the basement was provided, along with a new lift and reconfiguration of the reception area.

The building was completed to CAT A standard with finishes including new toilets at each level finished in terrazzo and handmade tiles with stone sanitary ware, new façade glazing, suspended ceilings with concealed building services, new plant area installed to the new roof, with the remainder of the roof being an amenity terrace and new external fire escape. The reception area has been finished with a new terrazzo floor, a barrel-vaulted ceiling and joinery.

At fourth floor, we connected in to the adjacent existing headquarters of our client at No. 2 Babmaes Street which we had refurbished previously.  This building remained in occupation throughout the works.  The basement areas were also connected, such that new cycle storage, shower and toilet areas could be shared.  A new access was also created to gain access from the street level for cyclists.
